Twice Blessed, Now Giving Back: Renata Moon

Renata MoonRenata Moon’s life was touched by Food & Friends twice. She first discovered the organization in 2005 when her mother was diagnosed with lung cancer and Renata became her caregiver.

“It was perfect,” she says. “It was the first time I’d been a caregiver like that, and just being able to not worry about cooking for her or myself, that helped and took a lot of pressure off.”

In 2008, when Renata’s father was diagnosed with prostate cancer, Food & Friends was there once again.

“I was convinced that it was an organization that I wanted to be a part of and wanted to help,” she says.

Since then, Renata has donated to the organization and volunteered to deliver meals prior to COVID-19.

The future of the organization has been a focus for Renata, spurring her to make a future gift through her estate.

“It goes back to giving back,” she says of her decision. “We may think we do this by ourselves, but somewhere, somebody helped you along the way. If you’ve been blessed with something, you have to bless others.”

Renata sees her gift as a way of making a difference long into the future.

“It’s a worthy cause, and it’s a good investment,” she says. “They care about the masses. Whether we’re here or not, we have to invest in the future.”
